Julia’s Music

I have loved playing music all my life.  Punk bands in San Francisco, touring jam bands, New Age (shudder!), all kinds of alternative bands, lots of stints going solo, including on the island of Okinawa – boy was i homesick! – and most recently, co-frontwoman/songwriter of the popular Loudoun band, One Horse Town.

Now that band has hung up its spurs, and I get to front my own rock ‘n roll band at last! I’ve always wanted to play electric guitar in a band, and now I’ve got the chance! Check out my rockin’ outfit,  Julia & the Ready Boys here!

I’m also the Worship Leader at Evergreen Church, Leesburg, VA. I’ve written a few tunes for my church, including “Living in Light of God” which has a cool video to go with it. Even though my spiritual side has gone through some changes, I still the video and song came out really cool! Both were recorded at Maniacal MediaWorks, Leesburg, VA for the Alt-230 label.

I’ve always been a great lover of nature and of the magic of our biosphere. Check out my rocking environmental rant, “Thin Blue Veil”, very ably produced by my friend Bob Holmcrans.

Recently, I’ve picked up the fiddle, which they let me scrape on at the Round Hill Bluegrass Friday night jams. Teaching music is a great benefit to me, because it has got me jumping between drums and the piano, rock’n roll and classical. Then of course I have to keep up my electric chops to keep ahead of my students, plus constantly picking up the new tunes my students want to learn. My life is basically nothing but music these days! How did this dream has come true!

Nowadays I have been playing lots of solo gigs around Loudoun County.  I love playing at  the beautiful wineries around the region, and am thrilled by all the new music happening in Leesburg, Purcellville, Ashburn, and all over the place.  First Friday is turning Leesburg into a real music destination, and when folks come from out of town, I’m always happy to take them to Macdowell’s Beach or Twin Oaks Tavern Winery.

I just put out a new cd of recent solo tunes.  Its just called “Julia Kasdorf” and I made it as eco-real as I could with minimal packaging.  Pick up a copy at one of my shows or ask me when you come to a lesson!
